About SMARTPlaigo
Emergency call centre optimization and ambulance fleet handling and positioning are key factors in ambulance response times. The assessment of ambulance service providers, overseen by regulatory authorities, often focuses on their ability to consistently meet and improve these critical response time that may differ depending on local circumstances and resources. SmartPLAIGO will develop and test system that supports emergency triage and ambulance dispatch in the National ambulance department of Cyprus. The existing ambulance system faces significant challenges such as optimal route planning, ambulance rerouting procedures and efficient communication between hospitals and ambulance personnel. These challenges are also shared with several other countries with similar budgetary, technological and landscape challenges. SmartPLAIGO seeks to bridge these gaps and enhance operations by introducing Evolutionary Computation (EC) and AI-driven (Data-driven) models on optimization of dynamic systems and the integration of GIS technology. This provides a blueprint international implementation, demonstrating the project’s potential global impact.
The main objectives of SmartPLAIGO project:
- use advanced technologies including AI-driven and evolutionary computation, GIS integration and dynamic systems modelling in ambulance control systems
- provide decision support tools for Ambulance control centres, ambulance personnel and hospitals
- develop and prove the usefulness of a comprehensive and user-friendly platform designed to improve ambulance dispatching, enhancing the overall efficiency of healthcare services, promoting public health and quality of life.
- focus on the challenges faced by the Cyprus State Ambulance Services, which is the only provider supporting emergency health care support handled by 112 (EU emergency call number)
- identify other countries that share the same challenges and could benefit from the successful deployment of this project.
By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies like AI, big data, and IoT, SmartPLAIGO aims to enhance healthcare management and the emergency services decision-making processes. The project will build on the effective collaboration and integration of the strengths of ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE) for Geographical Information Systems, eHealth Lab of Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) for electronic Health (eHealth) systems, STREMBLE Venture LTD (STR) as a successful SME in the eHealth market, and the support of the Ambulance Department of the State Health Services Organization (SHSO) as procedures and knowledge in Emergency Health Care Support; we aspire to introduce a new era of efficiency, communication, and responsiveness in the healthcare system, ultimately improving public health outcomes and the quality of life for all citizens.
